About
Virginia Farm to Table is an educational programming initiative to promote and develop healthy farms and healthy food for the common wealth and common good of all Virginians. This educational initiative is a collaborative effort of Virginia Cooperative Extension, Virginia Tech’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Virginia State University, the Virginia Tech Center for Food Systems and Community Transformation, and partner organizations to strengthen Virginia’s food system from the farm to the table. This relaunched website will provide educational, informational, and research resources for people and communities interested in strengthening food, farm, and health connections as well as Virginia’s overall food system. Since many people are one or two generations removed from actual farming, this website aims to connect and reconnect readers to farming, where food is produced, and where health begins from the farm to the table.

The Virginia Farm-to-Table Plan: Healthy Farms and Healthy Food for the Common Wealth and Common Good was published in 2011 as a strategic plan for strengthening Virginia’s food system and economic future. Two key tenets of the initiative and plan are:
1) Everyone should understand and be educated about the social, economic, and environmental importance of Virginia’s food system
2) Quality nutritious food should be affordable and equitably accessible to everyone in Virginia regardless of their financial means.
